Every Saturday morning, my grandfather would warm croissants and fill them with ham and cheese, whistling as he worked in the kitchen. It became our family’s quiet tradition, a small joy to start the weekend. This recipe brings that warmth to your home—a buttery, golden croissant filled with melted cheese and savory ham, crisped to perfection. Make your mornings special, one bite at a time.
4 large croissants
8 slices deli ham (or leftover baked ham)
4 slices Swiss cheese (or cheddar for a twist)
2 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
1 tbsp butter, melted
Pinch of black pepper
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Slice croissants horizontally without cutting all the way through.
Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard inside each croissant, if using.
Layer 2 slices of ham and 1 slice of cheese into each croissant.
Gently press them closed and place on the baking sheet.
Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with black pepper.
Bake for 10–12 minutes or until cheese melts and tops are golden brown. Serve warm.
Add a slice of tomato or a fried egg for a breakfast upgrade.
Use croissants a day old—they hold up better in the oven.
