Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 ¼ cup milk
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup sour cream

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Noodles

  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Cook egg noodles according to package directions, then drain and set aside.

2️⃣ Brown the Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart, for 6-8 minutes until no pink remains.
  • Drain excess fat, transfer beef to a plate, and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Roux

  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Whisk in flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

4️⃣ Create the Sauce

  • Gradually whisk in beef broth, stirring until smooth and slightly thickened (3-4 minutes).
  • Slowly add milk, continuing to whisk until the sauce thickens (5-7 minutes).

5️⃣ Season & Combine

  • Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  • Reduce heat to low, then add the cooked noodles and beef back into the skillet. Mix well.

6️⃣ Finish with Sour Cream

  • Gently stir in sour cream until the sauce is creamy and smooth.

7️⃣ Serve & Enjoy!

  • Serve hot over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley (optional).

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef (85/15) to avoid excess grease.
  • For extra flavor, sauté onions & mushrooms with the beef.
  • Don’t boil after adding sour cream—it may curdle!
  • Make it creamy by adding a splash of heavy cream if desired.
