This Oven Roasted BBQ Chicken is an easy, foolproof way to enjoy sticky, finger-licking chicken that turns out tender and juicy every time. Seasoned chicken breasts are roasted, smothered in BBQ sauce, and baked to perfection. This will quickly become a family favorite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs (900g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 inch thick)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the spice mix – In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Season the chicken – Rub olive oil on both sides of the chicken, then sprinkle the spice blend evenly over the chicken and rub it in.
  4. First bake – Place chicken on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Add BBQ sauce – Brush half of the BBQ sauce on both sides of the chicken and bake for another 10 minutes.
  6. Final glaze – Brush the remaining BBQ sauce on top and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Rest before serving – Let the chicken rest for 5-10 minutes (temperature will rise to 165°F / 74°C).

Notes

✔ Use even-sized chicken breasts for consistent cooking.
✔ Don’t skip the resting time – This keeps the chicken juicy.
✔ Broil for extra crispiness – For a caramelized finish, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end.
✔ Adjust sauce sweetness – If your BBQ sauce is too sweet, mix in a splash of apple cider vinegar or hot sauce.
