Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 tbsp lemon zest

  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour melted butter into a 9×9-inch baking dish.

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and 3/4 cup sugar.

  • Add milk and lemon zest, stirring just until combined. Pour batter evenly over the melted butter—don’t stir!

  • Mix lemon juice, hot water, and remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Carefully pour over the batter. Again, do not stir.

  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden and set.

  • Let cool slightly before serving warm—delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
