Ingredients
Scale
For the Bread Pudding:
6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French or Italian bread works best)
4 large eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
½ cup raisins (optional)
2 tbsp butter, melted
For the Vanilla Sauce:
½ cup butter
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar, packed
½ cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread Pudding:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Add bread cubes and raisins (if using), gently stirring to coat. Let sit 10 minutes to soak.
Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Drizzle with melted butter.
Bake for 40-45 minutes until set and golden on top.
2. Make the Vanilla Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Add sugars and cream, stirring until dissolved. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for 5 minutes, stirring often.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
3. Serve:
Let pudding cool slightly, then drizzle with warm sauce.
Best enjoyed warm—great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Notes
Stale bread works best for texture. No raisins? Try chocolate chips or dried cranberries instead!
