Easy Bread Pudding

This Easy Bread Pudding is a simple yet delicious dessert that transforms day-old bread into a warm, spiced treat. Topped with a luscious vanilla sauce, it’s just sweet enough without being overwhelming.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French or Italian bread works best)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup raisins (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

For the Vanilla Sauce:

  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread Pudding:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Add bread cubes and raisins (if using), gently stirring to coat. Let sit 10 minutes to soak.
  • Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Drizzle with melted butter.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until set and golden on top.

2. Make the Vanilla Sauce:

  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add sugars and cream, stirring until dissolved. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for 5 minutes, stirring often.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

3. Serve:

  • Let pudding cool slightly, then drizzle with warm sauce.
  • Best enjoyed warm—great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Notes

  • Stale bread works best for texture. No raisins? Try chocolate chips or dried cranberries instead!
