Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) beef chuck roast, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry for thickening)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the Beef: Season beef cubes with salt and pepper.
  2. Sauté Onions: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft (about 5 minutes).
  3. Sear Beef: Add beef to the skillet and brown on all sides (about 5–8 minutes).
  4. Add Garlic & Liquids: Stir in garlic, then pour in beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Thicken Sauce: Slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens (2–3 minutes).
  6. Serve: Enjoy over rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

✔ Tender Beef: For extra tenderness, marinate the beef in 1 tbsp vinegar or red wine for 30 minutes before cooking.
✔ Flavor Boost: Add mushrooms, thyme, or a splash of red wine for depth.
✔ Slow Cooker Option: Sear beef first, then transfer to a slow cooker with all ingredients and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours.
