Ingredients

▢ 2 white box cake mixes (prepared according to box directions)
▢ Red, blue, green, and yellow food coloring
▢ 8 ounces whipped cream cheese
▢ 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
▢ 12-ounce tub Cool Whip

Instructions

For the Cakes

  1. Prepare the cake mixes according to the box directions.
  2. Split the batter evenly into 4 bowls.
  3. Add food coloring to each bowl:
    • Purple Layer: 6 drops red + 5 drops blue
    • Yellow Layer: 5 drops yellow
    • Pink Layer: 6 drops red + 1 drop blue
    • Blue Layer: 4 drops blue + 2 drops green
  4. Bake each layer in an 8” round cake pan for 23-25 minutes.
  5. Allow the cakes to cool completely.

For the Cream Filling

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the whipped cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, and Cool Whip until smooth and well combined.

Assembling the Trifle

  1. Crumble each cake into small, even pieces, reserving ¼ cup of each color for the topping.
  2. In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, alternate layers of cake and cream filling. For example: purple cake, cream, yellow cake, cream, pink cake, cream, and blue cake on top.
  3. Finish with a layer of cream and sprinkle the reserved cake crumbs on top for decoration.

Notes

  1. Color Consistency: Use gel food coloring for more vibrant and consistent colors. Adjust the number of drops to achieve your desired shade.
  2. Cake Crumbling: Crumble the cakes into even-sized pieces for a balanced texture. Reserve some crumbs for a decorative topping.
  3. Chill Time: Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2-3 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to absorb the creamy filling.
