Chinese Ground Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry: A Quick & Flavorful Weeknight Meal

Chinese Ground Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry

This dish reminds me of my father’s quick weeknight stir-fries—always sizzling, always fragrant, and always devoured in minutes. It’s a no-fuss recipe with simple ingredients that delivers bold, comforting flavors in just one pan. Perfect for busy evenings or when you crave something warm and hearty without the heavy prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1/2 head green cabbage, shredded

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but tasty!)

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • Green onions or sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.

  • Add garlic, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.

  • Stir in shredded cabbage. Cook 5–7 minutes, until cabbage softens.

  • Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well.

  • Cook another 2–3 minutes until everything is coated and tender.

  • Garnish and serve with rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Use pre-shredded coleslaw mix to save time.

  • Swap beef for ground turkey or pork if preferred.

  • Add chili flakes for a spicy kick!
